Azafady's Construction Department aims to provide vital education, water and sanitation infrastructure in order
to build local capacity and improve the well-being of disadvantaged communities in south east Madagascar. It adds value
across all other departments, particularly through the provision of health infrastructure as part of the Community Health Department's
projects such as Salama, Malio and Mangampy.
Project Sekoly
School Building
Azafady has been building primary schools in remote rural villages since June 2006, working in partnership with the Regional Ministry of Education. This project has now been expanded to include the urban commune of Fort Dauphin, with major school building projects going ahead in 2010-2011 to provide two middle schools to the communities of Lanirano and Mahatalaky, each with several new fully furnished classrooms.
Project Fanaka
Classroom Furniture
Azafady is providing desks and benches to several under-resourced primary and middle schools in Fort Dauphin. This project aims to improve rates of school attendance while enhancing learning conditions and educational prospects for children in Fort Dauphin.
Project Salama
Rural Water & Sanitation
Azafady is responding to overwhelming demand from rural communities for access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities through the provision of infrastructure including wells and latrines. Project Salama sees the Construction Department working together with the Community Health Department, combining infrastructure provision with hygiene education.
Project Malio
Eliminating Open Defecation in Fort Dauphin
Azafady is working to eliminate the practice of open defecation in the urban commune of Fort Dauphin through the provision of sanitation infrastructure for over 1,000 of the poorest households. Project Malio sees the Construction Department working together with the Community Health Department, combining infrastructure provision with hygiene education.
Project Mangampy
Well building
Azafady is building wells and training community members in basic pump maintenance and repair in order to ensure ongoing access
to clean drinking water in the village of Beandry.
