We welcome
and encourage interested people from the United States
to join Pioneer Madagascar. We will do everything we
can to make sure that making your travel arrangements
runs as smoothly as possible.
Please take a look at the entire website and we think
you will agree that participating as a Pioneer will
give you an opportunity to make a difference and to
learn about Madagascar.

Flights:
While making travel plans is ultimately the responsibility
of the individual volunteer we can assist you. We book
flights on Air Madagascar from Paris to Madagascar on
behalf of the Pioneers which are then confirmed and
purchased by each volunteer. We encourage you to join
your group in Paris in order to fly with them on to
Madagascar. Alternatively, we recommend Cortez Travel
in the U.S. to assist you with making your arrangements.
Once you have signed up for a Pioneer scheme rest assured
we will provide you with any additional assistance you
may need.
Visas:
A visa is required for American citizens travelling
to Madagascar. We will provide you with all the back-up
documentation you
will need to complete the visa application. You can
download the
application from the bottom of the page.
Medical and Travel Insurance:
Each Pioneer is responsible for his or her own medical
insurance and travel assistance coverage. Please check
with your primary medical insurance carrier that you
are covered for all medical expenses incurred outside
the U.S. including emergency evacuation from a remote
area back to the U.S. Even if your health insurance
will reimburse you for medical care that you pay for
abroad, normal health insurance does not pay for medical
evacuation from a remote area or from a country where
medical facilities are inadequate. You should also check
that you are covered for travel contingencies such as
cancelled or delayed flights, and loss or theft of personal
property. You may find you are not adequately covered
in which case you will have to purchase additional coverage.
Many insurance companies offer short-term policies specifically
tailored for international travellers. See the Links
page for links to useful sites.
Fundraising:
Most of the Pioneers raise the minimum donation through
fundraising rather than paying the entire amount themselves.
You are of course welcome to simply pay the minimum
donation from your own funds, although we do hope that
by fundraising, Pioneers will assist us to raise
awareness about the threats to the people and environment
of Madagascar. We ask volunteers from the United States
to raise the equivalent of £2,500 due to that
fact that we are eligible for certain rebates from U.K.
Inland Revenue that are not available to us when non-U.K
volunteers make their minimum donations. If you decide
to fundraise we will provide you with lots of information
and ideas on how to do it.
We also emphasize that as long as the procedure is followed
to make your minimum donation through CAFAmerica the
minimum donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent
allowable under U.S. law. CAFAmerica is classified by
the Internal Revenue Service as a charitable organization,
described in Section 501(c)(3), and a public charity,
described in Sections 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) and 509(a)(1).
You are able to suggest that CAFAmerica make a grant
to Azafady. All donations made to Azafady via CAFAmerica
are 100% U.S. tax deductible.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not
hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to discuss
them with you, the London
staff is there to help you. |
