  Is this you?

Any person aged 18 or over may become a Pioneer as all required skills are taught. However, while practical and research experience is welcome, enthusiasm and sensitivity are a must.

You will be joining us on the understanding that you are an active part of our mission in Madagascar, which is to alleviate poverty, improve well-being, and preserve the unique and beautiful environments of southeast Madagascar. We are only able to accept people on our programs who are committed to acting in ways appropriate to such aims and who will be able to live and work in the conditions of Madagascar. You will be asked various questions relating to these factors on the program application form.

Although there are no prerequisites for certain courses of study, we feel that this program will be of particular benefit to people focused on biology, environmental studies, anthropology, international relations, development, conservation, African Studies, and any other degree relating to these subjects.

  The Application Process
Please make sure that you have had a good look at the entire website. Then, complete the application form (PDF 168 KB) and return it to us by post. We will then consider your application and will inform you within 14 days whether we feel you are a suitable candidate for Pioneer Madagascar.

Places are limited on each group to approximately 20 persons per 10-week scheme, departing early in the months of January, April, July and October each year. With the success of our volunteer programs to date, we anticipate a high demand for places. So even if you are only THINKING about joining one of the Pioneer groups, please complete the application form to let us know you are interested and to reserve your place.

If you are invited to join, we will send you further information on Pioneer Madagascar and advice on fundraising. You will need to send the first instalment of your donation (£500) as soon as possible or at least six weeks before departure to guarantee your place on the scheme that we have offered you (please note that as a charitable donation this is non-refundable). The remaining balance of your minimum donation is due at least three weeks before your departure date.

Please contact our London office if you have any questions about Pioneer Madagascar. We will be very happy to help and are always available with advice and guidance throughout the build-up to your exciting adventure on the ‘Eighth Continent’.
